An End Of Year Note From Amy Nagy, Chapter President

Dear NAIOP Community,

As we conclude a year that has been like no other, except maybe the year before, I want to pause for a minute to reflect on the highlights of 2021. More specifically, I continue to marvel at the way real estate development professionals carried out their work designing, building, and maintaining workplaces, homes, and communities. Most of our professions are hands-on and interactive. It’s one of the reasons many of us love what we do. Some of our most fulfilling times are huddling over a conference table to mark-up a set of plans with our colleagues and clients. Despite not being able to work in the way we are most adept, we have been resilient in carrying out municipal approvals online, interacting with clients and stakeholders behind a mask and navigating an ever-changing landscape of labor conditions and government guidelines. Through this resilience, projects have been proposed, seen completion, and become vibrant in 2021.  Because ours is an industry that looks toward the future, I am confident this will continue to be the case as we look for ways to work with our broader leadership towards recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

This note will conclude my term as the Upstate NY NAIOP president.  While I started the year with high hopes of many in-person activities, which I personally find energizing, that was not what the year offered. Regardless, I see our chapter as stronger than ever.  We were able to conduct our popular NOON ZOOM series, where we kept our community engaged from home, conducted in-person events when possible, such as our Meet the Candidate and golf events and through our network, stayed connected and supported one another. As a result of our hard work, along with the generous support of our sponsorship and membership base, I am happy to announce we have entered into an agreement with Rochester-based ROBEX Agency, who will provide chapter administration services allowing us to continue the growth of our organization.  This would not have been possible without the dedication and volunteerism put forth by our Board.  I am grateful for the persistence of this incredible group of professionals.  In January, I will pass the gavel to next year’s chapter president, Marc Wyzykowski.  Marc returned from the Pacific Northwest to join Uniland, and I am excited for the fresh ideas he brings to the chapter.

On a personal note, I want to extend my gratitude to Nick Sinatra for the unwavering support he provided me throughout my leadership term with NAIOP. Nick was the first person who invited me to a seat at the table, and instilled in me the importance of working together as a professional community.  As my role with NAIOP grew, he never hesitated to provide me with the necessary resources to advance the goals of the organization.

As I close this, I wish you the merriest of holiday seasons and wish you brighter days in 2022. Please take a moment to shop small and tip as big as your wallet allows, as we support those whose livelihoods have been hurt so much by the pandemic.  I look forward to seeing you all in 2022. You can expect to hear from me about our advocacy efforts in 2022, but in the meantime don’t hesitate to reach out by phone (716.597.5105) or email at  [email protected].

Warmly,

Amy Nagy
